Georgian Patriarch Ilia II has expressed his “deep sorrow” over the recent death of Metropolitan Kallistos Ware, Metropolitan of Diokleia and hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne, in a letter sent to his All-Holiness Bartholomew I, Archbishop of Constantinople.
“His death is a great loss for contemporary theology”, said the Georgian Patriarch in his tweet.
The top cleric passed away on August 24.
The sad news was reported by the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain earlier on Wednesday, describing the deceased cleric as a “noted scholar, lecturer and author, and devout and faithful clergyman, a beloved spiritual father”.
