Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday criticized the recent remarks made by German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, who stated at a Science Foundation event that the Georgian government has deviated from the European path.
Kobakhidze condemned Fischer's comments as anti-Georgian.
"Germany, which has traditionally distinguished itself as a responsible state, should not send such ambassadors to a country like Georgia. An ambassador who makes anti-Georgian statements is not valuable to us," said Kobakhidze.
He further elaborated on the ambassador's actions, noting Fischer's involvement with the opposition political party Lelo during their pre-election campaign. "We were just talking about the party Lelo, and we remind you that he went to the pre-election campaign with Lelo in the region; he came to Bolnisi with the leaders of Lelo. In light of such frivolous actions, I cannot attach much importance to this man's statements. This is a very sad event."
Kobakhidze expressed his hope that Fischer's remarks reflected his personal views rather than Germany's official stance. "This is an anti-Georgian statement, and I hope that this is the personal position of the ambassador supporting Lelo,'" he concluded.
